Rizal Provisional Issue
Overprinted on a 2c 1941 Regular Issue
4 March 1942
The earliest reported time on March 4 cancels is 10 o' clock. Such being the case, the tentative pre-war
steel handgrip cancel in this March 4 cover indicates that the postal clerk made a trial imprint on the cover
itself. Or, in the reported tense situation during the reopening of the post office, the clerk failed to check
if his/her pad was sufficiently inked.

Technically, this may be the first or one of the very first March 4, 1942 covers.
First Anniversary, Great East Asia War
Surcharged on 4-Centavos 1935 Regular Issue
8 December 1942
From May 18 to December 8, 1942, steel handgrip special postmarks were resurrected
from the pre-war inventory and used by postal clerks on special occasions.

On this last day of use of the said postmark one canceller gave in. Shown is a cancel with circular
line in the 2 o' clock portion separating from the main cancel imprint.
